 If you're too young to remember this guy, watch this Quicktime video clip of an original 1971 public service announcement from the non-profit group Keep America Beautiful. This commercial gave our nation its biggest guilt trip ever, and had people scouring the roadways picking up trash, so as not to upset the "Crying Indian" any further. Even today, millions of Americans picture this man's face any time they are tempted to litter. The fellow in the commercial was known as Iron Eyes Cody, a seasoned actor who worked with everyone from John Wayne to Jim Varney, and served as a technical adviser about "Indians" in many western films. In reality, though, he was an Italian-American named Oscar DiCorte, and while not a bit Native American, he did devote himself to Keeping America Beautiful, and to charities that support Native American Causes.
