The Cold Warriors' Last Stand
Click the link above to read the lyrics to a song about Russians that had everyone torn up back in the '80s about the Cold War. Scroll down to watch the video. Here's the punch line:

We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us, me and you
Is if the Russians love their children too

The war we are facing is far different from the Cold War. We didn't attack Russia because they didn't attack us, and vice-versa. We all loved our children, and knew if one of us attacked it would all be over. Iraq isn't Russia. Iraq can lob a missile 400 miles, but it can't nuke Minneapolis. It doesn't matter how much the Iraqis or the Afghanistanis love their children, this time. They couldn't love their children enough to make us not want to kill lots of them (as well as our own) in the name of fighting terror. No matter what, there's going to be war, because one man says so.

Would we be so willing to attack if Iraq had an arsenal that equalled our own? Their arsenal is pretty deadly as it is. What do nations do when other nations attack? What would the Soviets have done?
Not coincidentally, the people creating our new war are the very same people that had us all laying awake nights worrying about war and terror back in the eighties. And during those same nights that we prayed the Russians loved their children, these very same Cold Warriors were creating the war we are facing today.
If you're a right-winger out there crying, "But we won the Cold War!" I ask you, could we have done it without the help of killers like Osama Bin Laden? Was it really such a big victory, "winning" the Cold War? Are you sure we really won? September 11 and the upcoming War in Iraq suggest that the Cold War might not be over yet.
