The Keystone Pipeline will destroy millions of acres
of farmland, crossing thousands of rivers, lakes, and streams, near
thousands of water wells that people and livestock depend on for
drinking and irrigation.
Refining it in
Texas makes it easier to ship the oil
overseas, which is where most of this crude
is going. It's not for United States
consumers. Going through the Gulf of
Mexico is the easiest way to ship it off to
China.
Workers in
Michigan spent more than three years cleaning up
the
tar sands spill in the Kalamazoo River in
2010, and a 2013 tar sands spill in Mayflower,
Arkansas kept disaster workers busy for months.
Lingering health problems from these kinds of
spills provide jobs in the health care industry,
too.
The construction
jobs are only temporary, and the pipeline will
create
fewer than 50 permanent jobs in the
United States. But the leaks and spills
from the pipeline will be creating jobs for
years! We may help cover the costs,
if we're forced to.
Because we're
the oil industry. We make billions and
we spend a fortune
buying the men and women who represent you
in Washington. We also have lots of control
over the media, so they can convince you
that you want the Keystone XL Pipeline.
If you smell a rat over
the Keystone XL Pipeline,
hurry and let your lawmakers and media
know!
