F-16 Fighting Falcon

F-16 Fighting Falcon

Equipped and prepared to scramble in minutes, providing safety to Americans nationwide.

Come see one of many at
Andrews Air Force Base, conveniently located 10 miles from the Pentagon.

Your host

Okay, final question ...
How long does it take an
F-16 Fighting Falcon to scramble and intercept a hijacked commercial airliner?

Our three contestants
Contestant #1, you wrote 27 minutes.  You are incorrect.

27 minutes was how long it took to notify the President after NORAD was alerted, although he was at a location where he could have been reached in seconds.

The President finds out Strangely, Bush later said that he found out when he saw the first plane hit the WTC on television, but that isn't possible.
He says he knew we were under attack when he was told about the second WTC strike.  By this time the severity of the situation was obvious.  Bush "turned somber" and then continued reading with school children. Second WTC strike
What???   "Why did it take them so long to tell Bush that the planes had been hijacked?  That kind of emergency demands immediate action.  Why didn't Bush act immediately, or issue any orders?"
 Media doesnt' ask questions

Errr...we in the media don't ask those kinds of questions.

Contestant #2:  You wrote 26 minutes.  That, too, is incorrect.

26 minutes?
Listening to children read 26 minutes was how long it took President Bush to make a statement after he heard the news of the second World Trade Center strike.  In the meantime he listened to 18 children read a story about a pet goat. My Pet Goat
Aaawwwww! "Aaawwww!  A pet goat!"
"That is so sweet"
"What a great president."
But wait!  By that time they knew another hijacked jet was heading for Washington, DC!
Andrews Air Force Base is 10 miles from the Pentagon, with squadrons of jet fighters ready for any emergency, but the Air Force scrambled F-16s from 130 miles away.  Why???

"Why didn't they call in the
F-16s from Andrews?"
"Why weren't fighters already patrolling the skies of Washington, DC?"
"Why didn't Bush act immediately?"
What???
"They had plenty of time to stop the Pentagon hit!"
"Why was standard procedure not followed?"
"Why wasn't the Pentagon evacuated?"
What about patriotism?

People, people, come on!  Asking questions like that makes you seem unpatriotic.

Okay, Contestant #3:  You wrote Thirteen billion.  I'm sorry, that's wrong.

Thirteen billion
Billions $13 billion dollars is how much The Carlyle Group, a private bank, has invested in companies that make money off of war.  Carlyle group members include former CIA, Defense Department and State Department officials, like the President's father, George Bush, Sr., Frank Carlucci, James Baker, and more.

Bin Laden - Carlyle Group connection

The Carlyle Group's investors have included the family of Osama Bin Laden.  In fact, The Carlyle Group was meeting with representatives of the Bin Laden family at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, DC on the morning of September 11.

Our president could literally inherit many millions of dollars from  the defense contracts he is awarding now as he seeks to eliminate "evil" from the face of the earth.

Carlyle Money

I know.  I have money in Carlyle, too.  I'm a California state employee.  Our retirement fund, CalPERS, has hundreds of millions of dollars invested in The Carlyle Group.  Of course, we had that much invested in Enron, too, but with Carlyle it's different.  If the War on Terror lasts the rest of our lifetimes like Cheney says, The Carlyle Group will make me AND the President rich!

CALpers has their pension funds sunk into the Carlyle Group

Q       One thing, Mr. President, is that you have no idea how much you've done for this country.  And another thing is that, how did you feel when you heard about the terrorist attack?  (Applause.)

THE PRESIDENT:  Thank you, Jordan.  Well, Jordan, you're not going to believe what state I was in when I heard about the terrorist attack.  I was in Florida.  And my Chief of Staff, Andy Card -- actually, I was in a classroom talking about a reading program that works.  I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower -- the TV was obviously on.  And I used to fly, myself, and I said, well, there's one terrible pilot.  I said, it must have been a horrible accident.

But I was whisked off there, I didn't have much time to think about it.  And I was sitting in the classroom, and Andy Card, my Chief of Staff, who is sitting over here, walked in and said, "A second plane has hit the tower, America is under attack."

And, Jordan, I wasn't sure what to think at first.  You know, I grew up in a period of time where the idea of America being under attack never entered my mind -- just like your Daddy's and Mother's mind probably.  And I started thinking hard in that very brief period of time about what it meant to be under attack.  I knew that when I got all of the facts that we were under attack, there would be hell to pay for attacking America.  (Applause.)
