Swift Boat Veteran Angry About Letter ~ Billings (MT)
Gazette~ 9-01-04
Swift boat veteran Bob Anderson of Columbus is ticked.
It bothers him that Sen. John Kerry's swift boat history has become such a
political hot potato. But he's even more irritated that his name was
included - without his permission - on a letter used to discredit Kerry.
"I'm pretty nonpolitical," the 56-year-old Anderson said
Tuesday. So, when he found out last week that his name was one of about
300 signed on a letter questioning Kerry's service, he was
"flabbergasted... It's kind of like stealing my identity," said
Anderson, who spent a year on a swift boat as an engine man and gunner...More |

Has Ties to Anti-Kerry Book ~ New York Times ~ 8-30-04
Among the stoutest defenders of "Unfit for
Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against
John Kerry," the best-selling book arguing that Mr. Kerry lied about
his record of service in Vietnam, is the columnist Robert Novak.
In his syndicated columns and on the CNN program "Crossfire,"
Mr. Novak has lauded the book and referred to veterans who criticize Mr.
Kerry - most notably John E. O'Neill, the book's co-author - as "real
patriots."
Unmentioned in Mr. Novak's columns and television appearances, however, is
a personal connection he has to the book: his son, Alex Novak, is the
director of marketing for its publisher, the conservative publishing house
Regnery... More |

call for resignation of Clackamas prosecutor in Swift Boat ad
~ KGW-TV (Portland, OR) ~ 8-24-04
...Alfred French, 58, a senior deputy district attorney,
appeared in the recent ad by the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth and said:
"I served with John Kerry. . . . He is lying about his record."
French also signed a legal affidavit attesting to the claim. But
French, in an interview with The Oregonian newspaper last week, said he
was relying on the accounts of three other veterans when he said Kerry
lied. "I was not a witness to these events but my friends
were," said French, who was awarded two Bronze Stars during the
war. That acknowledgement fueled Monday's protest, where the
veterans contended French is unfit to serve as a prosecutor after swearing
to facts that he never personally witnessed ... More |
